"TiVo is the most advanced and easy-to-use personal television
service available. It’s a way for you to have total control over
what you watch, and when you watch it." - TiVo
This page was created primarily as a place for me to refer
friends interested in TiVo and to act as a jumpgate to some
various TiVo sites.

I have not picked up a DirectTiVo yet, but I still think they sound awesome.
-
I have a couple of TiVo's. One of them is pretty old and has a faceplate different
from the currently shipping philips TiVo's. I like the look of it more than the
current units so when I decided to add another hard drive and perform the upgrade,
I chose that unit to modify.
-
I had forgotten about a problem that I had with that box. Untill the upgrade it was
my barely used conflict resolver TiVo. It has a problem where bright red colors become
neon green in a colum pattern, and bright yellow colors have what looks like a pattern
of thin lines going through it. It is easy to notice while watching the simpsons.
-
I created a thread
looking for input and people mentioned that it may have something to do with the cable
input channel or that a reboot may solve the problem. I did try the suggestions but
unfortunately it did not resolve the problem.
-
I had assumed that it was a problem with the TiVo hardware and not related to the hard
drive at all. I was not tremendously bothered by the problem, but I did want to find a
solution. I decided that I wanted my main TiVo, which is now 91 hours thanks to the
snazzy upgrade procedure, to not have this problem. I decided to swap the 91 hour hard
drive pair with a 14 hour hard drive in a TiVo that does not exhibit this red->green issue.
-
The brain transplant was a success and both TiVo's were working fine. That is when I
noticed that the 91 hour unit was still having the red->green issue! This is the new
TiVo box with the old hard drives. I am fairly certain that the hard drive upgrade
process did not cause this behavior because I remember seeing the issue before the upgrade,
I had just forgotten about it. It looks like the issue is related to either the physical
hard drive, or to the software on the hard drive.
-
I think my current plan will probably be to trash the drives in the 91 hour unit and try
runing a diagnostic program on the drive to see if it finds any physcial defects. If that
turns up no problems then I will copy the 14 hour drive from my functioning unit and test
that out. If that has no problems than I will re-perform the upgrade process to go back
to the 91 hour unit and hope that has no problems. :) I figured I would share my findings
in case anyone else runs into this problem.

I am so excited, the DirectTiVo philips unit has finally shipped!
It is the first place that v2.0 of the TiVo software is available.
There is already a great FAQ too! Check it out at
http://www.tivofaq.com/DirecTiVo20.html.
-
I am anxiously awaiting v2.0 for the stand alone units, even though it is a few months out.
I will probably order a DirectTiVo in a few weeks because I really want one. I was thinking
about getting DSS anyway so it will be the perfect excuse. I tried once in the past but the
installers could not get past some obsticals from my garage. They thought they could hit the
satalite from my house but did not have the equipment to string the cable between buildings.
-
The highlight of v2.0 for me is the Season Pass Prioritizer. I am looking forward to
specifically designating Buffy: The Vampire Slayer as my #1 show. :)
-
I will add that TiVo review soon, I don't know why it is but whenever I try to add
anything new to my site I get swamped with stuff that I need to do. hehe, go figure.

I have been meaning to create this page for a long time now. I really
enjoy using my TiVo and could not imagine living with out it at this point.
-
I have a few friends who are interested in picking up a TiVo but were asking for
more information. This seemed like the perfect time to start the TiVo mini-site.
-
I have also included links to TiVo configurations for the Philips Pronto and the RTI
Theater Touch T2 remote controls.
