You may be wondering why this site is called the Mad Ravings of the Mighty Will or why I
even created the site. With any luck, I will be able to shed some light on that subject
here.
I remember walking around in a huge bookstore and being amazed that some
of those books were able to get published. I thought that some of them sounded so crazy
that I was not sure if they were serious or not. That is when I decided that anyone
could write a book. I am no author, and do not have anything particulary interesting
to say, but I bet I could come out with something that could get published.
I decided that I wanted to write a book called "The Mad Ravings of the Mighty Will". I
figured I could write a bunch of loony one page musings and then release that as a book.
I kind of thought of it as Saterday Night Live's Jack Handy meets "The Tick". I even
figured that a neat gimic would be to randomize the page order, since it would not matter.
I liked that tittle because it sounds like some kind of "self help" or "yoga" style book
and would be pretty funny considering my name is Will (though I am not that
mighty anymore).
My point was that anything could get published, and this book would prove it. It
started as a joke, but I have been thinking about it quite a bit off and
on for the past six or seven years. It has become a running joke and seemed like the
perfect theme for a web page. It would be a neat place to have going if I ever get
motivated enough to write the book (very unlikely).
I started the web page for a couple of reasons. I was curious how web pages are created,
and figured that since I am a programmer, I should make sure technology does not leave
me in the dust. I also wanted a place to keep all the links that I like to visit so
that I can browse from home or work with the same links.
I have always been interested in movies and video games. I spent quite a bit of time
tracking what games were coming out, and I figured that since I was going to spend the
time researching it, I may as well add it to a web page. I also go to the movies almost
every friday night, so I figured that it would be useful to people if I reviewed them.
That ended up being too much work so I started updating those sections less and less. I
did keep my links updated, and even added a few features that make browsing easier. I
am constantly using the "click the ball to open in a new window" part of the links to
avoid that extra little bit of work.
I had planned to create a full blown Starblazers website, but the sites that are already
out there are so good I figured why bother? I eventually got my hands on a Pronto and
found myself uploading configuration files so I could download them at work. I was
spending most of my lunch breaks tweaking like crazy. It was a small leap to adding
a section to the site about the Pronto.
My plan is to add sections about things that interest me, and update the old sections till
they don't. I have been thinking about adding a home theater section or a DVD section
for a while now, but I have been too consumed by the pronto and other time hogs.
